Singer Bebe Rexha posted a TikTok on Monday describing her current feelings of insecurity. “Honest update,” she captioned the vlog, in which she discussed her struggles with self-esteem and body image.
“So it is the holidays and I know we’re all supposed to be, like, merry and like, ‘Yay, it’s the holidays,'” she began the video, “which I am… ish.”
Rexha, 32, used the post as a way to explain not only her unhappy mindset but also her relative absence on social media, citing it as “the reason why I haven’t been posting in the last year or so, as much as I used to.” She said, “I haven’t been posting as much because I don’t feel good in my skin. And when I don’t feel good, I don’t want to post.”
The artist fought tears throughout the video as she spoke. “I think all of the body positivity that stems from me is probably [from] a place of hurt and confusion,” she added. “I don’t know… how to help myself anymore, or how to love myself.”
The vlog comes a week after Rexha tweeted, “To the person who is feeling down this holiday season, you got this and you will get through. Sending you love.”
Fans flooded the comments of her Tweet and TikTok video with words of support.
“I hope you’re feeling great my queen,” wrote one Twitter user, @bebehungary. “You deserve it!! Love you so much and I’ll be here no matter what!”
“You are beautiful inside and out,” wrote TikTok user @coachsamahb. “Thank you for this brave post.”
Some users acknowledged the extra pressures that life in the spotlight can add to one’s self-esteem and body image struggles. “Being on the internet while not feeling confident just magnifies those feelings,” said verified TikTok user @camipetyn. “[I] appreciate your vulnerability so much, girl.”
“You’re beautiful in any weight,” commented TikTok user @juliekushnir7. “Just be happy, healthy and comfortable with yourself, that’s the only thing that matters. We love you.”
The singer/songwriter has won multiple awards since signing with Warner Records in 2013. She released her second album, Better Mistakes, in May 2021.
