Bebe Rexha, 33, has opened up about her weight gain as a result of having polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

On an episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show, the pop star looked back on a moment when she read the comments on a TikTok video she posted of herself and saw that the first comment was referring to how she had gained weight.

In April, Rexha called out social media users who commented about her weight. She added in a later tweet: “A b—- likes to eat.”

“Listen, we’re in the public eye, so that’s bound to happen, especially, like, I was a lot thinner and I did gain some weight,” she said. “But, that comes with the territory. I’m not mad about it because it is true.”

The audience applauded when she said, “We’re in 2023. We should not be talking about people’s weight.”

She then talked about her PCOS diagnosis, saying that many women have it without knowing. “It’s one of the leading causes of why women gain weight and are obese,” the singer stated. “I literally jumped, like 30 pounds.”

Rexha isn’t the only celebrity to share their experience with PCOS. Pretty Little Liars star Sasha Pieterse talked about her diagnosis on Dancing With the Stars in 2017, saying that it was “one of the hardest things” she’s been through and that she had received many body-shaming comments on social media.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), PCOS affects five million women in the U.S. Symptoms include weight gain, irregular periods, hair growth, acne and infertility.

Rexha then recalled her experience struggling with food and having her record label tell her that she needed to get into “boot camp shape” and “lose 20 pounds” to be successful.
