TV personality Bear Grylls shared a heartfelt family photograph on Instagram to commemorate son Marmaduke‘s 18th birthday. The image features Grylls, Marmaduke, and his wife, Shara Cannings Knight, and it has sparked surprise across the internet due to Marmaduke’s enormous height.

On April 6, Grylls posted two family photos with the caption, “18 today! We love you so much, Marmaduke… keep shining bright!”

While numerous well-wishers extended birthday greetings, the attention focused mainly on Marmaduke’s towering stature. One comment humorously quipped, “Bear Junior is turning out to be a Grizzly.” Another playful remark read, “You must look up to him a lot,” while a third individual shared, “Bear Grylls looks like he is the son.”

Born on June 7, 1974, Edward Michael “Bear” Grylls, a former SAS trooper, has honed his survival expert, adventurer and television presenter skills. Grylls initially captured the public’s attention when he set multiple world records in unforgiving environments. However, his widely acclaimed television series Man vs. Wild, aired from 2006 to 2011, propelled him to global recognition.

Grylls has continued to showcase his wilderness expertise through various television programs both in the U.K. and the U.S., such as Running Wild with Bear Grylls and The Island with Bear Grylls, where he immerses himself and others in the challenges of survival in the untamed wild.

In July 2009, Grylls assumed the role of Chief Scout for The Scout Association in the United Kingdom and Overseas Territories. At 35, he became the youngest person to hold the position. Grylls has since served a second term as Chief Scout.

Grylls and Knight exchanged vows in 2000 and are also proud parents to two additional sons, Huckleberry and Jesse.

Grylls recently revealed that he obtained Irish citizenship in the past few years and emphasized his deep connection to his birthplace in Donaghadee, Northern Ireland. He expressed gratitude for his Irish heritage and highlighted the benefits of an Irish passport, particularly in light of Brexit.

The adventurer’s latest venture involves teaming up with popular TV personality Holly Willoughby for an upcoming game show set to debut on Netflix in 2025. The show will transport British celebrities to the jungles of Central America, where they will face exciting challenges under Grylls’ guidance.
