British adventurer, survivalist and reality show star Bear Grylls, 38, best known for taking us on his harrowing Discovery Channel Man vs. Wild hit, which enjoyed a six-year run and dropped the final curtain early this spring, is coming back in a new reality competition series on broadcast television.
NBC is launching the new Get Out Alive, in which teams will face challenges in the wild, reports Entertainment Weekly. Grylls, who will helm the new series, described it as "raw, tough and unrelenting …. The goal is to empower people with the ultimate in both survival and teamwork, and that brings incredible reward — but first there must be some pain."
And what would a Grylls show be without it? "To meet Bear is to meet a force of nature," said Paul Telegdy of NBC Entertainment. "He is a magnetic and charismatic talent, whose infectious enthusiasm for adventure inspires people to push themselves beyond their limits."
NBC plans to debut Get Out Alive next summer. The network has ordered eight episodes of the series.
