Despite it's dark subject matter, Battle: Los Angeles was a hit with moviegoers this weekend. The alien invasion action movie starring Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez (pictured) took home $36 million in its opening weekend. Fans also had a hard time saying no to Johnny Depp's animated western Rango, which had another strong showing in its second week, bringing in $23 million, while the sexy spin on Red Riding Hood starring Amanda Seyfried rounded out the Top 3 with $14 million in ticket sales.

Among the Top 10's other notable new releases, Mars Needs Moms, which came in at number five with $6.8 million. Action thriller The Adjustment Bureau, high school drama Beastly, buddy comedy Hall Pass continued their hold over the Top 10, as did Just Go With It, bringing in $4 million to land at number eight. The Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston flick is rapidly approaching the $100 million mark, grossing over $93 million in five weeks.
