Music legend Barry Manilow, 68, was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital on Monday to undergo surgery for bursitis. The procedure will repair torn abductor muscles in both of his hips, the result of a lifetime of stage performing.
Manilow performed his 1,000th concert at the Las Vegas Hilton the night before he went into surgery. The show marks the culmination of his seven-year run at the hotel, according to USA Today. Manilow seemed to have a positive attitude about the surgery, even releasing a statement joking, "That's what you get when you jump around to 'Copacabana' for 30 years! Wish me luck."
The surgery went "very well," according to a Twitter update, and now the singer and consummate performer will spend the next six weeks in recovery before returning to the stage in Chicago on February 2.
