“Copacabana” singer Barry Manilow had to cancel his sold-out show at the Westgate hotel in Las Vegas this weekend due to a bronchial infection.
The Tony, Grammy and Emmy award-winner has been hospitalized and is being “closely monitored and supervised” by his doctors, according to a statement released on Manilow’s twitter on Wednesday.
Manilow is expected to be released shortly, with doctors predicting a speedy recovery. He should be performing again by June 21.
“I can’t believe this is happening,” Manilow said in the statement. “Our new show is ready, we’re all ready, and we were all looking forward to tonight.”
David Siegel, Westgate Resorts’ Founder & CEO, wished Manilow well and is ready to welcome him back shortly.
“The entire Westgate family wishes Barry a speedy recovery and we know that he will dazzle audiences when his show resumes on June 21st,” Siegel said.
Previously, the 74-year-old had a residency at the Westgate in 2005 when it was called the Las Vegas Hilton. The day before announcing the cancellation, Manilow asked fans what their favorite memory of his performances in Vegas via Twitter.
Ticketholders can seek a full refund or exchange their tickets for future concert dates. Additionally, the Westgate is offering free Soundtrack nights on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
