Barbie Ferreira Announces She’s Leaving ‘Euphoria’ Cast Before Season Three

Barbie Ferreira, the actress who played Kat on the hit HBO high-school drama Euphoria announced she will not be returning to the show for its third season.

“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a teary-eyed goodbye,” she wrote on her Instagram. “I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today.”

Kat’s storyline in season one was acclaimed for showing her going from nervous and insecure about her weight to a sexually confident and assured character.

However, fans of her character noted that Ferreira’s screen time seemed to be reduced in the second season. Rumors arose that she clashed with series creator Sam Levinson over the direction of her character and even stormed off set, but both Ferreira and the network HBO have denied that.

It remains to be seen whether creative differences caused departure.

There are other reasons she could’ve walked away, perhaps there were renegotiations for the young actors’ contracts after the show’s success, and Ferreira wasn’t awarded a substantial enough pay bump.

Plenty of actors who work on long-TV shows also experience burnout if they stay on too long, and Euphoria’s production for season two was halted several times due to pandemic delays.

uInterview reached out to a representative of Ferreira’s for comment.

She most recently appeared in the Jordan Peele thriller Nope in a small role and also was seen in an episode of AppleTV+ mystery series The Afterparty.
