The communications director for Anthony Weiner’s mayoral campaign, Barbara Morgan, apologized on Tuesday after calling a former intern who published a tell-all in the New York Daily News a "slutbag."

Former intern, college student Olivia Nuzzi, alleges that many of the interns and employees working for former congressman Weiner’s campaign were only there in the hopes of networking with Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, a close aide to Hilary Clinton.

“Their [interns] hope was to make a connection with Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, and thus forge a potential connection to her longtime boss, Hilary Clinton, to get an inside track for a campaign position if she ran for president in 2016,” writes Nuzzi.

Nuzzi went on to criticize those that remain working for the campaign after Weiner’s most recent sexting scandal.

“Who would work on a campaign like this? It has been reported that Weiner had difficulty hiring veteran operatives. His choice of a campaign manager led to the headline, ‘Weiner Said to Hire Relative Unknown to Run Mayoral Campaign.’ His communications director last worked as the press secretary for the New Jersey state education commissioner,” Nuzzi states.

After the article was published early Tuesday morning, communications director Morgan was contacted for an interview with Talking Points Memo, and went on a rant criticizing Nuzzi.

“F–king slutbag. Nice f**king glamour shot on the cover of the Daily News. Man, see if you ever get a job in this town again,” Morgan said.

Morgan also told the website that she had previously tried to fire Nuzzi, and had decided to give her a second chance before Nuzzi left the campaign about a month ago. Morgan complained that Nuzzi regularly missed work and was not a competent employee. As for the allegation that most of Weiner’s employees are only there to get close to Abedin, Morgan was quick to dismiss the suggestion, saying, “It’s all bulls—.” Morgan appears to have taken Nuzzi's betrayal personally, expressing her frustration at the digs made questioning her own credentials.

“And then like she had the f–king balls to like trash me in the paper. And be like, ‘His communications director was last the press secretary of the Department of Education in New Jersey,’ You know what? F–k you, you little c–t. I’m not joking, I am going to sue her,” Morgan continued.

After her comments were published, Morgan released an apology, saying that she thought her comments on Nuzzi were off the record.

“In a moment of frustration, I used inappropriate language in what I thought was an off-the-record conversation. It was wrong and I am very sorry, which is what I said tonight when I called and emailed Olivia to apologize,” Morgan stated when contacted by Business Insider.

However, Talking Points Memo editor and publisher Josh Marshall insists that Morgans comments were, in fact, made on the record.

This is just the latest in a series of controversies to appear from Weiner’s mayoral campaign. He has currently dropped to fourth place in the polls and many political minds have been encouraging him to drop out of the race.
