Barack Obama Voices Support For Gay Marriage, Celebs React

President Barack Obama has affirmed his belief that same sex couples should be allowed to wed, according to ABC News, and many celebrities and media personalities have been celebrating the news on Twitter.

Obama, who until today has said he believes marriage should be legally defined as that between a man and a woman, explained to ABC's Robin Roberts — in an interview to air on Thursday's Good Morning America — that his views on the issue have evolved.

"I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors, when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together; when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that 'don't ask, don't tell' is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I've just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married," Obama said.

Since the news broke Wednesday afternoon, Twitter and other media outlets have been buzzing with support and enthusiasm. Here are just a few Tweets from celebrities who have spoken up:

Jane Lynch: "Obama: Marriage? Gay is Okay!"
