Former first couple Barack and Michelle Obama clearly know how to surprise each other in romantic ways.

On Saturday, Barack Obama surprised his wife by making an appearance onstage in Washington, D.C. at the first stop of the tour for her new memoir Becoming. He even brought Michelle a special gift: pink flowers.

“This is like — you know when Jay-Z comes out during the Beyoncé concert?” the 57-year-old former president joked, per CNN. “Like, ‘Crazy In Love’?”

“It’s the same thing. It’s just a little sample to enhance the concert,” Barack Obama added.

In July, the Obamas were spotted dancing at Beyoncé and Jay’z On the Run II concert tour in D.C. The Queen B famously performed at both of Barack Obama’s inaugurations.

Former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett moderated the event where 54-year-old Michelle Obama promoted her book, and she asked her former boss about the first time he met his wife.

“First of all, she’s really tall, and most of it was legs,” said Barack Obama, according to The Hill.

In Becoming, Michelle Obama opens up about several personal life events, including the fact that she and her husband saw a marriage counselor for some time.

“Because we’re role models, it’s important for us to be honest and say, if you’re in a marriage and there are times you want to leave, that’s normal — because I felt that way,” the former first lady told People, explaining why she included this piece of information in the memoir.

Becoming was released on Tuesday (Nov. 13). Michelle Obama is set to visit ten U.S. cities in total for her book tour, which began in her hometown of Chicago last week and will end Dec. 17 in Dallas.
