Seeds&Chips: The Global Food Innovation Summit 2017 with keynote speaker 44th President of the United States Barack Obama
Former President Barack Obama has given his approval of Joe Biden’s running mate, California Senator Kamala Harris, writing that Biden “nailed this decision.”
In a statement, Obama said, “Choosing a vice president is the first important decision a president makes. When you’re in the Oval Office, weighing the toughest issues, and the choice you make will affect the lives and livelihoods of the entire country – you need someone with you who’s got the judgment and the character to make the right call.”
He continued saying Biden choosing Harris shows “his own judgment and character” which are “requirements of the job” of the president.
Obama tweeted his statement of approval and said along with it, “I’ve known Senator Harris for a long time. She is more than prepared for the job.”
Harris is the first black woman and the first South Asian woman to be chosen as a running mate for a major party ever in the U.S. She is the third woman to be picked as a vice-presidential candidate for a major party in the U.S. following Geraldine Ferraro and Sarah Palin.
Hours after being announced as Biden’s running mate, Harris tweeted, “I’m honored to join him [Biden] as our party’s nominee for Vice President, and do what it takes to make him our Commander-in-Chief.”
During her time in the Senate, Harris has served on the Judiciary and Intelligence Committees. This year, Harris worked on legislation to provide COVID-19 assistance to incarcerated people, combating maternal mortality and morbidity, protecting people from eviction during the pandemic and providing better access to food through the SNAP program.
Obama ended his statement saying, “This is a good day for our country. Now let’s go win this thing.”
