Barack Obama spoke to John Stewart about his record in the White House on The Daily Show
President Barack Obama was heckled during his speech at the LGBT Pride event on Wednesday night.
While Obama was speaking at a White House event honoring LGBT Pride Month on Wednesday, a high-pitched voice can be heard from the crowd. The voice appeared to be mocking Obama’s speech by echoing a few of his words. Obama was not thrilled as he shook his finger at the perpetrator and said, “No, no, no.”
“Listen you’re in my house,” he told his heckler, who was protesting deportations under the Obama administration. “It’s not respectful when you get invited to somebody’s house…You’re not gonna get a good response from me by interrupting like this.”
The interruption continued, however, and Obama asked for the heckler to be removed from the East Room. The rest of the audience responded by calling out “boos” to the heckler and cheers of “Obama! Obama!”
As the heckler was being removed Obama called out, “Shame on you! You shouldn’t be doing this.”
“As a general rule I am just fine with a few hecklers. But not when I’m up here in the house,” he told the crowd, as Vice President Joe Biden clapped him on the back.
Obama proceeded saying, “My attitude is if you’re eating the hors d’oeuvres and drinking the booze…,” they’re expected to listen respectfully.
An immigration group claimed the heckler was an undocumented immigrant Jennicet Gutiérrez, who is transgender. According to a press release, Gutiérrez was a founding member of FAMILIA TQLM, established to advocate for LGBTQ immigrants, who the group says are often excluded in the immigration debate.
