‘The Bachelorette’ Recap: Men Choose Kaitlyn Bristowe; New Bachelorette Narrows Field Of Suitors

The Bachelorette kicked off Tuesday night where it left off Monday – with Chris Harrison on the verge of breaking the news to either Britt Nilsson or Kaitlyn Bristowe that they will not be the next Bachelorette.

The Bachelorette Recap

In the dramatic opening moments, Chris goes over to Britt and tells her, “The majority of the men have chosen one of the women – and it’s not you.” Britt manages to hold back her tears while she graciously accepts her defeat to the host. Chris then walks her out of the Bachelorette Mansion. In the limo, Britt breaks down in tears, crying about how hard it was to walk away from the great men she just met.

When Chris finds Kaitlyn, he releases an audible sigh and proceeded to say, “I counted the votes, and unfortunately, Kaitlyn…,” allowing her to think she was going home, before adding, “I had to send Britt home.” Even more shocking than learning she was officially the next Bachelorette was that she was going to have to go through her first Rose Ceremony that evening – and give out a First Impression Rose.

After a little bit of mingling with the men, receiving a welded steel rose from welder Joshua, Kaitlyn pulls Shawn B. aside and gives him the coveted First Impression Rose. Since Shawn B. was once of the guys who was really pulling for Kaitlyn to win, he gladly accepts the offer.

Some of the men, however, are not terribly thrilled with Kaitlyn’s victory. Healer Tony, for one, expresses his extreme sadness at losing Britt, who he thought could be his soulmate. Singer-songwriter Brady is also pretty devastated, saying he felt so many emotions for Britt and now doesn’t know what to do with them. Jared decided to be upfront with his vote for Britt, taking Kaitlyn aside to say that even though Britt got his Rose, he still very much wants to stay in the competition to get to know her.

Rose Ceremony

Who got a rose? Chris, Ben H., J.J., Joe, Kupah, Daniel, Ryan B., Joshua, Tony, Clint, Corey, Jonathan, Cory, Ben Z., Tanner, Ian, Justin and Jared. Brady pulled himself out of the competition mid-Rose Ceremony and went off to find Britt, and Ryan M. was ousted by Chris Harrison in the Bachelorette premiere for his debauchery. David, Bradley, amateur sex coach Shawn E. and Josh, the law student/stripper, didn’t get a rose from Kaitlyn, leaving 19 men still in the running.

Bachelorette Season Preview

Coming up on the The Bachelorette is, as could be expected, a lot of drama, as Kaitlyn tries to find her husband. Nick Viall, who infamously competed for Andy Dorfman‘s heart and then revealed they slept together during After the Final Rose that season, shows up to join the competition. And, Kaitlyn confesses to having sex with one of the guys a bit early into the mass dating exercise, leaving a number of the men furious.

The Bachelorette airs on ABC Mondays at 8/7c.
