This week, The Bachelor packed up and went to Paris for the week to continue bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr.‘s quest for love.
Not only is Paris the perfect destination to fall in love, but it’s also apparently the perfect spot for two-on-one dates, according to producers. “This week is really important,” Arie says to host Chris Harrison. “I have to really choose those dates wisely, because from now on, all those decisions are extremely difficult.”
Before we get to that cringe-worthy date, Lauren gets a one-on-one boat ride with Arie down the Seine. They travel through Paris, capturing views of the city, and neither has much to say. Lauren emits a series of ‘wows’ before Arie freaks out and says, “I would love more than anything for you to like me,” to which Lauren replies, “yeah.” Despite Arie’s hope, it seems like there is not much chemistry there.
At dinner, they finally get Lauren talking when Arie drops the bomb that he got his girlfriend pregnant in the past. She lost the baby and left him, but still a big thing to admit right after his date spits out that she has trust issues. But she starts opening up more and tells Arie that she is “terrified to tell you anything” essentially because her parents haven’t had an “easy marriage.” Despite the awkwardness, Arie is happy that Lauren is talking to him, so he hands her a rose.
Next we get a group date with Becca K., Seinne, Bekah M., Tia, Chelsea and Jenna. They meet Arie at the Moulin Rouge for a cabaret show. But of course, the show will feature the contestants. They all learn a choreographed routine from the famed landmark’s choreographer. But in another weird twist, they each have to audition for Arie, who will then give out one date rose, and the recipient of that rose will be the only woman to perform in the cabaret. In the end, he gives the rose to Bekah and the pair perform a silly show together.
Finally, the moment everyone was waiting for – the two-on-one date featuring Arie, Kendall and Krystal. The enemies share a limo to a chateau in the countryside where they meet the bachelor. First Arie pulls Krystal aside and explains that he’s not “punishing her,” but he has a lot of questions after how she behaved last week on their group bowling date. Krystal has seemingly prepared for this line of questioning, and knows exactly what to say to make him happy. “I’m so sorry that I didn’t come and talk to you,” she says. “I regret that, and I would never do that again. I don’t want to throw away all the color and texture and depth of our relationship.” Arie eats it up and they kiss.
But Krystal gets a little too cocky and bad-mouths Kendall, saying she probably isn’t even ready for marriage. When Arie brings this up to Kendall, she responds that she “can see love forever in” him. To the audience camera though, she says that Krystal’s comments shook her, but that it’s clear that Krystal is only there to win, not to fall in love. When Kendall and Krystal get a moment alone, Kendall tries to empathize with her opponent, but Krystal shoots her down.
Arie takes them to dinner and gives his date rose to Kendall, which means Krystal is being sent home. The whole episode is very dramatic, and it’s not even over. There is still a one-on-one date with Jacqueline. Arie picks her up in a cute convertible before they go shopping and out to dinner. He admits that he was afraid Jacqueline might be too smart for him, as she goes for her Ph.D. But he gives her the date rose anyway.
Later at the rose ceremony, Arie hands out his last few roses to Tia, Seinne and Becca, which means that Chelsea and Jenna, along with Krystal, are headed home this episode.
