‘The Bachelor’ Season 22, Episode 2 Recap: Women Participate In Demolition Derby Group Date, 3 Sent Home

Bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. is still getting to know his 21 female suitors, and the first first dates are just around the corner in The Bachelor‘s second episode.

THE BACHELOR RECAP

Host Chris Harrison gives the first date card of the season to Becca K., which tells her to “hold on tight.” Later we see the pair head off on a motorcycle ride, which proves that Becca talks too much, but also doesn’t add much to a conversation. For the rest of the date, Arie takes Becca shopping, while he “sits back and enjoys it.” Becca is loving being pampered at the high-end store, but at the end of the date, the two haven’t bonded or said anything of importance to each other. Regardless, the two share a kiss after Arie puts Becca’s new earrings in her ears.

At the end of the date, they do start speaking about their families, but it does nothing but scratch the surface of a meaningful conversation. Arie gives Becca the date rose anyway, and shoots of confetti that almost sounds like a gunshot at first.

The following day, Krystal gets her first date. He takes her around his hometown, showing her the Pizza Hut where he used to work, where he had his first kiss, and his high school. He manages to offend her by mentioning the “art nerds and band guys” in school. The pair end up at his house, where Arie shows her childhood photos and videos. Despite the challenge of The Bachelor being to choose between 20 different women vying for your love and affection, Arie still decides to use this date to let Krystal get to know him, instead of vice versa. Lastly, Arie takes Krystal to meet his parents at their home, which proves meaningless, as Arie hasn’t gotten to know Krystal at all and has a small chance of choosing her in the end.

They go to dinner where Krystal finally gets to talk about herself, and shares that she had a hard upbringing, with both of her parents semi-out of her life, and she had to care for her younger brother. Arie responds condescendingly, saying that he has “lots of friends with difficult upbringings.” He gives her the date rose, and they dance and sway awkwardly to a private concert. Once back at the house, Krystal decides she doesn’t want to talk to any of the other women at all, and won’t give details about her date.

The final date of the episode is 15-person group date for Maquel, Marikh, Tia, Valerie, Annaliese, Lauren G., Kendall, Bekah, Jenny, Seinne, Janna, Caroline, Brittany, Bibiana, and Chelsea. They all head out to a demolition derby, where the women each get to spray paint their own cars an hit each other. Bibiana and Brittany drive well, but it ends up being Sienna who takes out Tia for the winning trophy.

After the date, all the women and Arie engage in a cocktail party. Chelsea quickly grabs Arie and admits that she was being “mysterious” on night one because she hadn’t told him that she has a son at home. Arie is totally fine with that, and says he’s dated women with children in the past. Getting to know Seinne a bit, its’s clear that she deserves better than Arie – she’s a Yale grad who’s lived in Brazil and Italy, while Arie “barely graduated high school and worked at Pizza Hut.”

The rest of the night follows with the women creating a list of who is next to talk to Arie. Bibiana hates that plan, and storms out. Meanwhile, Arie is busy kissing Bekah. He ends the night by giving the date rose to Seinne.

The next night, there is yet another cocktail party, where Arie awards Brittany a certificate for being the “Most Hardcore” at the demolition derby. Bekah then jumps in to make out with Arie some more, and assure him that she’s low-maintenance, despite adding, “I always have to have a fur on me.”

Krystal steals Arie away next and tries to get physical. Kendall grabs him and makes fun of his age, which is a refreshing change from the other conversations the women are having with Arie. Bibiana then finally gets her chance to talk to Arie, but appears to have forgotten what she wanted to say. Krystal butts in again, and Bibiana doesn’t forget it – she confronts her later. “When you learn to speak to me like a normal human being and not a fake tone, I can actually respect you and listen to you,” she yells.

We end this episode with the usual rose ceremony. Earlier in the episode, Arie gave out roses to Krystal, Becca, and Seinne. Now, he hands roses to Maquel, Jacqueline, Bekah M., Jenna, Chelsea, Lauren S., Tia, Annaliese, Lauren B., Kendall, Brittany, Ashley, Marikh, Caroline, and Bibiana. The women going home are Valerie, Lauren G., and Jenny.
