The Bachelor left off last week prior to the Rose Ceremony and after Chris Soules choked up recalling Kelsey’s story of loss – with Kelsey on the floor claiming to be the victim of a panic attack, which all the women thought was a ruse.
Her stunt, as she’d hoped, got her some one-on-one time with Chris prior to the Rose Ceremony. They share some hugs and kisses. Afterwards, Kelsey “jokingly” remarks, “I’m gonna get a rose tonight, for sure.” As Kelsey predicted, she received a rose, as did Jade, Kaitlyn, Megan, Becca and Ashley. Chris chose to say goodbye to Mackenzie and Samantha, who, according to the women, has just as compelling a sob story as Kelsey.
With that Rose Ceremony finally behind them, the remaining women head off with Chris to Deadwood, South Dakota, where Becca receives the first one-on-one date rose. Becca, who told Chris earlier in the season that she’s a virgin and would be taking her time kissing him, gets treated to a horseback ride. They chit chat and laugh and finally get their first kiss.
While Becca and Chris are bonding, back at the hotel, Carly, Kaitlyn and Whitney call Kelsey out on being fake, basically trying to get her to drop out of the running. Kelsey denies that she’s two-faced, telling them that they’re confusing the fact that she is “blessed with eloquence” with mendacity. Obviously, that remark didn’t do much to change the women’s opinion of her.
For the group date, Chris will hang out with Whitney, Jade, Britt, Kaitlyn, Carly and Megan. Together, they head to Stockade to write some original music with the country-loving Chris. Jade’s not terribly comfortable on the date, leading Big of Big & Rich to tell her to run down the street to get her creative juices going. When she gets back, she spots Chris kissing Britt, which doesn’t help her to get into the mindset to write a love song for him.
When it came time to sing the songs, Jade painfully got through it, Kaitlyn rapped, Carly put on a serenade, Whitney screeched and Britt brought Chris to tears with her musicality. Chris enjoyed her song so much that he continues to kiss her in front of the other women and then sneaks her off to watch a Big & Rich show, giving her the date rose up on the stage.
The highly-anticipated two-on-one date with Chris, Ashley and Kelsey takes place in the Badlands. Chris first spends some time alone with Ashley, who, after swallowing his face again, informs him that Kelsey isn’t well-liked in the house. So, first thing Chris does when he’s alone with Kelsey is ask her about that charge. Kelsey’s response, “I’m hurt.” She later puts Ashley down about her Kardashian appearance and overly made up face. Ashley, though she’s not constantly going on about her eloquence, pointed out that she too went to grad school.
While Ashley was appearing to come out of the date on top, things take a turn for the worse when her emotions get the better of her. She cries to Chris about regretting ratting on Kelsey. Chris responds by telling her Kelsey thinks she’s immature, which only makes her cry more. He keeps the tears rolling by telling her they’re at different places in their lives and that they have different lifestyles, essentially breaking it off with her. Ashley then takes the opportunity to point out that Britt won’t exactly be at home in Iowa either, storms off, storms back in and storms off again to go talk to herself on a rock.
After saying goodbye to Ashley, Chris finds Kelsey to say goodbye to her as well, explaining that there isn’t much between them. Kelsey takes the dismissal in stride, fitting it into her narrative of rising above, as Chris gets out of the Badlands on a helicopter, leaving the women behind. Back at the hotel, the remaining women can’t contain their glee with not just Ashley, but the detested Kelsey as well, getting her bags packed.
