Axl Rose is demanding that a picture of him taken back in 2010 be scrubbed from the internet after it was made into a series of “fat” Axl Rose memes.
Axl Rose has issued a takedown request to Google bosses, citing America’s Digital Millenium Copyright act. The request was sent to Google through internet piracy prevention company Web Sheriff. It reads: “Copyright image of Axl Rose. Please be advised that no permission has been granted to publish the copyright image so we cannot direct you to an authorized example of it.”
The picture in question was taken by photographer Boris Minkevich at a Guns N’ Roses concert in Winnipeg, Canada, in 2010. Though Minkevich took the photo, Web Sheriff claims that Axl Rose is its owner, and therefore within his rights to demand that Google take it down.
“We can gladly confirm that all official / accredited photographers at [Axl Rose] shows sign-off on ‘Photography Permission’ contracts / ‘Photographic Release’ agreements which A. specify and limit the manner in which the photos can be exploited and B. transfer copyright ownership in such photos to AR’s relevant service company,” the company told Torrent Freak in a statement.
Google has yet to comply with the take-down request, so the images can still be found online.
