Avicii’s Death Was A Suicide, His Family Implies In Post

Avicii’s death was a suicide,  the DJ’s family suggest in a social media post.

Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, had a deep love for music but disliked of the limelight. “When he stopped touring, he wanted to find balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music,” the statement said. “He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace. Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight. [He was a] fragile artistic soul searching for answers” and that being a “over-achieving perfectionist who traveled and worked hard” led to him having “extreme stress.”

DJ Laidback Luke told previously told People that being a celebrity changed Avicii. “2015 was the last time I saw him face to face, and I remember there wasn’t much Tim left. Tim looked to me kind of like a zombie. He had aged significantly. When I saw him perform, it was as if he wasn’t in touch with life anymore.”

In 2013 Avicii told People, “I’m tired, really tired, I’ve been at it since I was 17, 18 years old …touring non stop, 300 shows a year…I need a break.” In 2016 he announced his retirement from touring, in a letter to his fans he said, “The next stage will be all about my love for making music to you guys.It is the beginning of something new. Hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.”

Avicii was found dead in Muscat, Oman. Earlier autopsies cleared suspicion of foul play and allowed his body to be sent back to Sweden.

The family’s statement is below.

Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions.

An over-achieving perfectionist who traveled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress.

When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music.

He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness.

He could not go on any longer.

He wanted to find peace.

Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight.

Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed.

The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive.
