River Monsters, a series that airs on Animal Planet, was filming off the coast of the Northern Territory in Australia when the crew came across a castaway who was nearing his death.

‘River Monsters’ Crew Saves Castaway

Led by host Jeremy Wade, the River Monsters crew was in search of the Queensland Grouper for an episode titled “Death Down Under” back in November. Nearing Barranyi North Island, the group spotted a cooler on the rocks, which caught their attention. Moments later, a naked man ran out of a nearby cave and began swimming towards them. The man was Tremine, a fisherman who had lost his boat two days prior.

Tremine had been digging for oysters when he became disoriented and ended up getting separated from his boat. Without food or water and exposed to the dangerously hot weather, Wade believes that had his crew not stumbled upon Tremine, it would not have been long before he lost his life.

“One more day on the beach and he could have died,” Wade told News.com.au. “Out here in the Australian high summer stranded without water or shelter your survival is limited to two, maybe three, days.”

Director Stephen Shearman also believes that it was only a matter of time for Tremine. “He was prepared to die and meet his maker,” Shearman told InsideEdition. “This guy is super experienced, goes out fishing a lot, he knows the landscape, he knows the dangers, and yet he succumbed to it so quickly. Everything was fine, and within two to three hours, everything wasn’t really fine at all.”
