Rachael Gunn, better known by her breaking alias “Raygun,” has signed with influencer marketing agency Born Bred Talent, but questions remain about whether the Australian breakdancer has missed her chance to fully capitalize on her viral fame.
Gunn, 36, became a household name in Australia and beyond after her performance at the Paris Olympic Games, where her unconventional dance moves—like the “sprinkler,” a snake impression and a kangaroo hop—left audiences stunned and amused. Despite the global attention, the Olympic judges were less impressed, as Gunn failed to win a single round in her three appearances.
Following her Olympic stint, Gunn’s Instagram following soared to 197,000, and she has been a regular topic in the media. High-profile celebrities such as Adele, Jimmy Fallon and DJ Fatboy Slim have all commented on Gunn’s memorable performance, with Fatboy Slim humorously suggesting that she deserved a perfect score for her efforts.
In the weeks since the Games, Gunn remained largely silent, only breaking her silence with a social media post last week. She also made a brief appearance at the TV Week Logie Awards, where she delivered a pre-recorded message. In her post, Gunn defended her Olympic performance, expressing her dedication to the competition and calling for an end to the harassment directed at her loved ones and the breaking community.
However, some industry experts believe Gunn may have missed a crucial window to turn her viral moment into a lucrative career.
Amid the criticism, Gunn’s next move might be an appearance on the reality TV show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Producers of the show, which pits celebrities against each other in a series of challenges in a rugged campsite, are reportedly eyeing Gunn as a potential contestant for the upcoming season. The opportunity could bring Gunn a lot of money, though it remains to be seen whether it will be enough to sustain her newfound fame.
