Jeff Baena, the acclaimed filmmaker known for works like Life After Beth and The Little Hours, died by suicide in January 2025 at 47. Recent reports have revealed that Baena and his wife, actress Aubrey Plaza, had quietly separated in September 2024, months prior to his death.

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s autopsy report, Plaza relocated to New York following their separation, while Baena remained in Los Angeles. In October 2024, Baena made concerning remarks that led Plaza to request a welfare check. Baena then began attending therapy sessions.

In the wake of Baena’s passing, Plaza issued a statement describing the loss as an “unimaginable tragedy” and expressed gratitude for the support received, while requesting privacy during this difficult time.
