John Hinckley Jr., the attempted assassin of former President Ronald Reagan, declared that he was scrapping his plans to open a music store after receiving negative publicity.
On Dec. 2, Hinckley, who was released from a government psychiatric hospital in 2016 following his assassination attempt, announced his business plans on X.
“I’ll be opening a music store in Williamsburg, [Virginia],” he wrote on the platform. “The address is 455 Merrimack [sic] Trail. Grand opening is in a week or two!”
Hinckley’s post, which is no longer on X, garnered dozens of responses, most showing support for the business and his attempt at a fresh start.
The address that the attempted assassin listed was in a strip mall, nearly two miles from downtown Colonial Williamsburg and the College of William & Mary.
The property is located in York County, just outside of Williamsburg, where Hinckley has been living near since 2016.
However, the York County Commissioner of the Revenue’s office said the business license for a music store was absent.
“The music store is not happening,” Hinkley told a local NBC station. “Too much negative publicity!”
The would-be assassin has not made any public statements regarding dropping the plans.
Following his release, Hinckley has been growing his music career. In 2022, he announced that he had sold out a concert in Brooklyn.
