Asiana Airlines flight 214 from Seoul crashed upon landing in San Francisco on Saturday, leaving two dead and 61 injured.
When the Boeing 777 came into San Francisco airport, it crashed on runway 28L, FAA spokesperson Lynn Lunsford told USA Today. On the runway, the crashed plane was smoking and lost its tail as the emergency exits opened from the planes fuselage. The roof of the plane appeared damaged with gaping holes.
Among the 61 injured, ten people – eight adults and two children – were in critical condition following the crash. They were all treated at San Francisco General Hospital, hospital spokeswoman Rachael Kagan said. There had been 291 passengers and 16 flight crewmembers aboard the ill-fated flight.
The National Transportation Safety Board has sent a team from Washington to the crash site in San Francisco. NTSB chairwoman Deborah Hersman told reporters, “We have not determined what the focus of this investigation is yet. … Everything is on the table at this point." By “everything,” Hersman is talking about human error, mechanical error, airport operations, etc.
