Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Charlie Rowe And More Screen Test For Marvel’s Spider-Man

Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland and Charlie Rowe all tested for the role of Spider-Man in Marvel’s next reboot of the superhero.

Six Actors Screen Test For Spider-Man

Six young actors took part in all-day screen testing on Saturday, May 30, for Marvel, each one hoping to take over the part of Peter Parker. Butterfield, Holland and Rowe auditioned for the part along with Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz and Charlie Plummer. All six reportedly screen tested in front of Marvel head Kevin Feige, Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal and directors of Captain America: Civil War, Joe and Anthony Russo.

Early reports suggested that Butterfield, 18, had already won the role, but those proved false. Butterfield is certainly the most well known of the bunch, having already starred in blockbusters Hugo and Ender’s Game.

In comparison, Lewis, who appears to be one of the youngest potential superheroes, only has a few credits to his name, including a guest spot on CSI: Cyber. Audiences might recognize Holland, 19, from his role as Naomi Watts’ son in The Impossible, and Lintz, 14, from a slew of television guest appearances.

The eldest actor in the group, Rowe, 19, recently starred in Fox’s failed drama, Red Band Society. (Fans might also recognize him as Octavia Spencer’s Oscar date.) And Plummer, 16, appeared in eight episodes of Boardwalk Empire and recently starred in the indie King Jack, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

It’s unclear whether the filmmakers will go for a younger actor – the youngest in the running is 14-years-old – as the past two big screen Spider-Mans, played by Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, have been more on the older side. Sources also said that there is a slight chance none of the six will end up getting the part, and that Marvel would continue searching beyond the six actors mentioned. Marvel intends to introduce their new Spider-Man in Civil War, which is currently in production.
