Arrested Development will have a fifth season on Netflix, according to the network’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos.
Sarandos said he’s “positive” that Netflix will produce and host a new season of Arrested Development sometime in the future in an interview with USA Today. However, the Netflix exec couldn’t say when the season would be able to come to fruition, as the series stars are a busy group of actors. "It's just a matter of when," Sarandos conceded.
Scheduling was a problem for the fourth series of Arrested Development, which aired on Netflix. Since the actors all had other commitments, there were many scenes in which members of the Bluth family weren’t with one another. The lack of the ensemble feel of the show was criticized in reviews of the seasons, which Sarandos said is “fair,” adding, “the cast didn't appear on screen often enough together."
While it’s uncertain when Arrested Development will return with new material to Netflix, Sarandos revealed that both Orange is the New Black and House of Cards will be delivering new seasons in 2015, though it’s unknown if Hemlock Grove will get a third season.
New shows coming to the streaming network include comedy Grace and Frankie starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin and historical drama Marco Polo.
