Arnold Schwarzenegger On Trump Immigration Ban: “It’s Crazy & Makes Us Look Stupid”

Arnold Schwarzenegger has weighed in on Donald Trump and Steve Bannon‘s controversial decision to ban immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States.

The Terminator actor sat down with Mario Lopez for an interview on Extra, and gave his two cents. “I think that the real problem is that it was vetted badly. If they would have run this by the Justice Department and Homeland Security and had their lawyers really study and focus on it and give it some time to do it the right way,” he stated. “I know what he’s trying to accomplish and his fear about having people come in from other places and cause harm to the country… but there is another way of going about it to do it the right way and still accomplish all the same goals.”

Schwarzenegger got more personal with his statement, saying it is unfair and ineffective to ban men and women who were previously awarded visas and green cards. “I mean to go and to ban people who have a green card, that means the United States of America has given you permission to work here permanently in this country and you’re on your way to citizenship,” he said. “I was in that position.”

He continues to describe college students who were granted the honor to study in the states and go home to the Middle East to visit their parents, “and then to come back again to continue to study and to be told that they can’t come in, I mean it’s crazy.”

“It’s crazy and it makes us look stupid when the White House is ill-prepared to put this kind of executive order out there,” he said, before saying he hopes this will be a wake up call for the administration. “I learned quickly that I had to be more inclusive and that I have to really not only do it with my party but do it with the other party too,” he said of his time in office as the Governor of California.

Lopez asked if the actor would ever return to politics, to which Schwarzenegger eagerly said he would not. “I wasn’t born to be a politician, I was born to go and be successful and give back. I have no interest in it now after I have done that… The next job up would be running for president, which is out of the question because I was not born in the United States,” he said, and jokes, “that’s the kind of immigration reform we need.”
