Actor Armie Hammer dropped his role in the upcoming movie Shotgun Wedding starring Jennifer Lopez, after screenshots of disturbing Instagram DMs were released last weekend. The original tweet was deleted and the messages have not been verified as really being Hammer’s.

“I’m not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,” Hammer said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “Lionsgate is supporting me in this, and I’m grateful to them for that.”

A representative from the film commented on Hammer’s decision to leave the role.

“Given the imminent start date of Shotgun Wedding, Armie has requested to step away from the film, and we support him in his decision,” said a production spokesperson in an earlier statement

Shotgun Wedding tells the story of a couple who invites their families to a destination wedding. Things go wrong when the wedding gets hijacked by criminals and their families are taken hostage. This film is being directed by Jason Moore and was written by Mark Hammer and Elizabeth Meriwether.

Hammer is known for his previous roles in The Social Network and Call Me By Your Name.
