Mexican singer Ariel Camacho died in a car accident in Mexico Wednesday. He was 22.
Angel Del Villar, president and founder of the Regional Mexican label DEL Record, confirmed Camacho’s untimely death to Billboard. “My heart is broken by the loss of Ariel Camacho,” Del Villar said. “I knew he was going to transform the genre in Mexico and the United States. Millions of people would have become fans and would have gotten to know the man I did.”
Camacho had been touring to promote a deluxe version of his album titled El Karma. He was traveling on a highway outside of Sinaloa, Mexico, when the tragic crash occurred.
Born Jose Ariel Camacho Barraza, the young singer had gained popularity with his smooth vocals, acoustic guitar skills and relatable lyrics that tackled experiences faced by his listeners. He broke into the music scene on YouTube and with live shows.
Camacho recorded El Karma with his band, Los Plebes del Ranch.
