Ariana Grande attended the Sydney, Australia, premiere of Wicked in a Glinda-inspired custom dress.
Grande, who plays the beloved good witch in the upcoming film, wore a Vivienne Westwood gown with a tulle skirt, corset bodice and puffed sleeves, channeling her character at the event on Nov. 3. She punctuated the look with a butterfly choker, a nod to Glinda’s outfit in the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz.
Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba in the film, rocked a black Louis Vuitton sculptural dress with a corseted bodice. Like Grande, she finished the ensemble with a choker, hers featuring a lion’s head.
The two women posed together on the red carpet, holding hands while flaunting their thoughtful outfits.
Wicked will premiere in theatres on Nov. 22. It is the first of a two-part installation that had been in the works for years, but was halted due to events like Covid-19 and the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
In October, Erivo slammed the various viral edits of the film’s promotional poster.
“Our poster is an homage, not an imitation; to edit my face and hide my eyes is to erase me, and that is just deeply hurtful,” she said.
