Fans got their first look at Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the new Wicked movie.
On Sunday, director Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights) shared two still photographs from the upcoming two-part film adaptation of the Broadway musical on Instagram.

The first photo sees Erivo, 36, as Elphaba, wearing a black cloak and pointy hat while mounting a broom. The actress commented on Chu’s post: “It’s been wonderful making magic with you.”
The second picture features Grande, 29, as Glinda, walking up a flight of stairs in a pink ball gown and blonde hair.
Universal’s movie adaption of the musical is based on the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. The film was first announced in 2016.
Wicked is the prequel to The Wizard of Oz and tells the story of the friendship between Elphaba, who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the Good Witch. The original Broadway production of Wicked began in 2003 starring Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth.
In November 2021, Erivo and Grande were cast in the lead roles. Actor Jeff Goldblum confirmed he would be playing the Wizard in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
The first film is scheduled to release on November 27, 2024, while the second will land in theaters on December 25, 2025.
