Ariana Grande & Pete Davidson Call Off Engagement, Split Up

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson have split up and called off their engagement, it was reported Sunday.

The 25-year-old pop star and 24-year-old Saturday Night Live cast member announced they were engaged in June, after just weeks of dating.

According to People magazine, a source close to Grande said: “It was way too much too soon. It’s not shocking to anyone.”

Davidson and Grande met when the singer served as musical guest on SNL in 2014, the year Davidson joined the sketch comedy series. Grande then hosted the show in 2016.

Their engagement took everyone by surprise for two reasons: they had been publicly dating for only a few weeks, and their relationship started shortly after Grande’s ex-boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller, died aged 26 on Sept. 7 of a suspected drug overdose. Grande’s split from Davidson suggests she is taking more time to heal following the death of Miller, whom the “God Is a Woman” singer dated for about two years. Shortly before beginning to date Grande, Davidson had also recently ended a relationship of his own: he had been dating comedian Larry David‘s daughter, Cazzie David

In an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in June, Davidson said that after his engagement, he felt like he had “won a contest” and that a fan told him “you gave me hope!”

Davidson also joked about his relationship with Grande on SNL’s “Weekend Update” last month.

“You know, I don’t even get royalties for that ‘Pete Davidson’ song?” he said, referencing a song on Grande’s latest album Sweetener. “Like, if we break up, and we won’t — we will — but we won’t. I’m kidding. But in 10 years if, God forbid, that ever happened, there will be a song called ‘Pete Davidson’ playing in speakers at K-Mart and I’ll be working there.”

About getting a prenup with Grande, Davidson joked: “Obviously, I wanted one. God forbid we split up and she takes half my sneakers.”

Davidson also revealed he received death threats shortly after he and Grande announced their engagement.
