Ariadna Gutierrez, Miss Colombia, Tells Steve Harvey ‘You Have To Learn To Read’

Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez sat down to talk with Steve Harvey on his show, where she made a quip about the host’s ability to read.

Steve Harvey made a massive gaffe while hosting the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant, incorrectly naming Gutierrez as the winner of the crown instead of the first runner-up. Upon realizing his mistake, the comedian was forced to return to the stage and make the correction, explaining that Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach was the true winner.

“How do you feel about the way I handled the situation?” Harvey asked Gutierrez on his show. “What were your thoughts? Because it happened to you. Genuinely, how did you feel I handled the situation?”

Gutierrez initially seemed off guard and unsure of how to answer the question, before joking, “You have to learn how to read cards, because it was on the card.” she then quipped, “You wanted me to win.”

Happy to take the way out that Gutierrez was giving him, Harvey exclaimed, “Yes! I wanted you to win. I can leave it at that.”

Gutierrez went on to explain that when Harvey came out to right the wrong, she thought it was a comedy bit. “I was laughing. If you see the videos, I was laughing, because I thought you were about to make a joke,” she admitted.

If it had been a joke, Harvey said it would have been the “worst damn joke I ever written in my life.”

During a more serious part of the interview, Harvey offered Gutierrez a sincere and heartfelt apology.

“You’re the one person that I really wanted to talk to. Because of a mistake I’ve made, I cast you into a spotlight, a place, that I never intended to, that I would not want happen to anybody,” said Harvey. “I just want to say how sorry I am. I really am. I’m beyond sorry for what happened that night and that it was you. At the end of the day, I hope we walk away from this with something special.”

When Wurtzbach was on the show earlier this week, she told Harvey that he need not feel badly over the mistake any longer. “Steve, don’t beat yourself up for this anymore,” she said. “Come on, let’s move forward, let’s just be happy.”
