Aretha Franklin Brings Tears To Obama’s Eyes With “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”

At 73, Aretha Franklin is showing no signs of diminishing talent, wowing the crowd at the Kennedy Center Honors in D.C. Tuesday night with a stunning performance of “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.”

Aretha Franklin Brings Tears To Obama’s Eyes

Franklin took the stage to pay tribute to honoree Carole King, writer of the classic 60’s hit, eliciting a jubilant reaction from the legendary singer-songwriter and even bringing a tear to President Obama‘s cheek, who attended the show with wife Michelle Obama.

Franklin strutted on to the stage in an entirely impractical, fabulously diva, floor-length fur gown and accompanied herself on a grand piano. It was when she arose and dramatically cast off her furs that the captivated audience really went wild, however, standing up and singing along with the Queen of Soul.

Franklin wasn’t the only performer to honor King. Chilina Kennedy and Scott J. Campbell from Broadway’s Beautiful performed “So Far Away,” Janelle Monae sang “Will You Love Me Tomorrow” and “One Fine Day,” James Taylor wowed with “Up On The Roof,” and Sara Bareilles did a lovely rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend.” A tribute cast then sang “I Feel The Earth Move.”

Cicely Tyson, Seiji Ozawa, The Eagles, George Lucas, and Rita Moreno were also honored at the ceremony.
