Apple is aiming to release the next-generation of iPhone this coming summer, although the new model is unlikely to be a great departure from the iPhone 5.
The new smartphone will retain a similar size and shape to the iPhone 5, according to the Wall Street Journal report on the summer launch. Instead of a dramatic redesign, the changes will most likely amount to an iPhone 5S update.
The latest rumor report neglects to speculate on any new features that the updated iPhone might have. However, past reports suggested that a fingerprint sensor system could be an additional security option on the phone.
It’s also been rumored over the last couple of months that Apple had a less expensive model of their popular smartphone in the works. The company, who is looking for a late 2013 release for the product, has been testing “different color shells” for the economic device, according to the WSJ.
While both rumors have been offered in the past by other sources, this recent report is arguably the most legitimate. As The Verge said, “The Wall Street Journal is generally a highly reliable source of Apple news, making this latest report about as credible as rumors come.”
