Apple has sent out invitations and publicity announcements for this year’s product announcement, to take place 10 a.m. PT on Sept. 7 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. This notably points to the unveiling of the iPhone 7 and 7 plus, but the announcement might also include word about a upgraded Apple Watch, iOS 10, and an increased push for integrated smart home-appliances. The event can be live-streamed here.
Likely the centerpiece of CEO Tim Cook’s announcement next Wednesday, the iPhone 7 and larger counterpart is rumored to be nearly identical in design to the 6S and 6S Plus, but may offer an improved dual-lens camera. Already known is the heated decision to remove a headphone jack from the device, forcing users to purchases wireless headphones.
Another device rumored to be getting an update is the Apple Watch, which must compete with an increasing line of smartwatches and fitness trackers. Some features to give it a better edge might include GPS tracking.
A more universal upgrade for the majority of Apple’s mobile devices is iOS 10, the free upgrade set to release later this month. Some of the newer features include image and video rich messaging, Apple Pay connection between phone and Mac, and the ability to copy and past links across devices.
While still a rumor, another addition on Apple’s docket might include improved communication between HomeKit-enable appliances, making your house smarter and more in-the-loop with your daily needs. New features include Siri being able to control these appliances.
