Anya Taylor-Joy Wins Best Actress In A Miniseries Or Television Film At Golden Globes For ‘Queen’s Gambit’

Anya Taylor-Joy won Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film at the 78th Golden Globe Awards on Sunday. Taylor-Joy won for her performance as Elizabeth “Beth” Harmon, the main protagonist in the coming-of-age period drama miniseries The Queen’s Gambit based on the book of the same name by Walter Tevis. Taylor-Joy was nominated alongside several other popular actresses, including Cate Blanchett for Mrs. America, Daisy Edgar-Jones for Normal People, Shira Haas for Unorthodox and Nicole Kidman for The Undoing. In addition to being the one to take home the Golden Globe this year, Taylor-Joy has become the first Latino actress to win in the category of Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film.

This is the first Golden Globe that Taylor-Joy has won and the second nomination she received this year. The other nomination was for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role as Emma Woodhouse in the period comedy drama film Emma.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic forcing nearly everyone into a quarantine, Taylor-Joy along with the other nominees were appeared virtually instead of actually attending the ceremony. During her acceptance speech, Taylor-Joy said, “Thank you for being part of this journey, thank you for trusting me with Beth. I would love to thank Netflix for letting us make the show we wanted to make. It’s obviously wonderful that everyone’s seen the show. I would do this project again and again and again; I learned so much. Thank you to the audiences that have watched it and supported the characters. It meant the world.”

The Queen’s Gambit won both awards in the category it was nominated for, winning the award for Best Limited Series or Television Film along with Taylor-Joy’s award.
