Anya Taylor-Joy Says She Was She Was Bullied In School For Her Looks

Anya Taylor-Joy opened up in a recent interview with Drew Barrymore about some of the difficulties she faced at a younger age. The 26-year-old actress began her film career after she dropped out of school at the age of 16. She burst onto the scene with her leading role in The Witch and hasn’t looked back since, and was promoting the dark comedy horror film The Menu in this latest conversation.

Taylor-Joy began her interview by talking about being a young fan of The Beach Boys, and she also joked that she hadn’t “grown into my face yet” when she was around 14. She also spoke about how she was occasionally bullied at school and had to be reassured by her parents.

“I was very, very lucky with my parents because when I was bullied for my looks, my mum always said ‘You look at the inside of somebody, you don’t look at class… it’s just, do you like that person’s heart?'” Taylor-Joy reflected.

Along with The Menu, Taylor-Joy reunited with director Robert Eggers for his film The Northman which was released this spring. As for her upcoming projects, Taylor-Joy remains very much in demand. She is currently filming Furiosa, the prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road focusing on the origin of the iconic Furiosa character first played by Charlize Theron.

She is also going to be playing Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and recently booked the newest film from The Black Phone director Scott Derrickson, which has the title The Gorge and is billed as an “action love story.”
