The 82nd Annual Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony took place Wednesday night and included a host of performances by singers, as well as the Rockettes.
The Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting was hosted by NBC’s Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker and Natalie Morales and aired live on the network for millions of people to tune in and enjoy the entertainment.
Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, Cyndi Lauper and Billy Porter, Seth MacFarlane featuring Sara Bareilles, Idina Menzel, Pentatonix, LeAnn Rimes, Trisha Yearwood, Prince Royce, Darius Rucker and Mariah Carey – even though she missed her scheduled pre-taping – were all on hand to perform Christmas favorites for the crowd that gathered for the annual holiday event in Manhattan.
“It’s really cool to be here. It’s such a beautiful night, and there’s so many people here — the air is just alive — and I look at my magical tree,” said bystander Rachel Drosdick-Sigafoos.
Of course, the biggest star of the annual event is the tree, which lights up 30 Rock. This year, the tree is a 90-year-old, 85-foot Norway spruce from Hemlock Township, Pa. Lit with 45,000 LED lights, the tree will continue to shine through the season until Jan. 7.
