English rock legends The Who announced their residency in Las Vegas, in what they deem their final tour before retirement. This is not the band’s first goodbye tour. Led by 71-year-old guitarist Pete Townshend and 73-year-old singer Roger Daltrey, the band kicked off a tour in late 2014, calling the tour a “long goodbye.”
The residency is tentatively set at six shows, though a statement released described it as a “first run.” The tour will kick off on July 29 at Caesars Palace, a Roman-themed casino hotel that’s a landmark of Sin City.
A statement released by the band states: “Fans can expect the band to take them on an ‘Amazing Journey’ through their entire career from the days of The High Numbers to classic albums such as Who’s Next, Tommy, Quadrophenia, My Generation and Live at Leeds up to the present.”
The renowned band is heralded for their angst-ridden lyrics, high guitar volumes, and is credited for setting the stage for heavy metal and punk rock. They’ve produced several songs that represent the rock era, including “I Can’t Explain,” “My Generation,” “The Kids are Alright” and “Who Are You.”
The Who will be the first rock band to perform at Caesars Palace’s concert venue The Colosseum since the venue opened in 2003.
Other performers with residencies at The Colosseum include Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Elton John and Rod Stewart.
