After five months from being terminated from NBC for alleged sexual misconduct, more information about Matt Lauer is coming to light.

In 2012, Lauer’s former co-anchor Ann Curry, who earlier stated she was not surprised about the allegations, says that she was approached by NBC’s management team after a female employee was “sexually harassed physically” by Lauer. The employee has chose to stay anonymous, as she fears retaliation that may follow. “A woman approached me and asked me tearfully if I could help her,” Curry told the Washington Post. “She was afraid of losing her job … I believed her.”

Curry then took it into her own hands to talk to the management. “I told management they had a problem and they needed to keep an eye on him and how he deals with women,” she said.  Since she has a non-disclosure agreement with the company, Curry declined to name the management official she talked to.

That same year she reported the misconduct, she also left the show, she only co-hosted with Lauer for a year. It was speculated that she was fired due to lack of chemistry with Lauer, who believes he had a role in getting Curry to leave.

Curry highlights that there was “pervasive verbal sexual harassment at NBC,” but also realizes why there is hesitancy to report misconduct.  “This is one of the problems when we talk about corporations with an HR department being under leadership of someone who might or might not be accused,” she said. “How are they going to complain about it if they are accusing someone who is overseeing the department that is supposed to protect them?”

The past few months, Lauer has kept a low profile from the media, to protect his family and their privacy. However, he has finally spoken out following these allegations. He said that he acknowledges that he has done wrong, but that the allegations are false. “I fully acknowledge that I acted inappropriately as a husband, father and principal at NBC,” he told Washington Post. “However I want to make it perfectly clear that any allegations or reports of coercive, aggressive or abusive actions on my part, at any time, are absolutely false.”
