In a recent conversation on Vivek Ramaswamy’s podcast, The Truth Podcast, conservative commentator Ann Coulter sparked outrage with her offensive comments, among which were the declaration that she would not vote for Ramaswamy to be president due to his ethnic background as the child of Indian immigrants.
In the discussion, titled “Ann Coulter on the N Word: Nationalism,” Coulter first praised Ramaswamy’s opening monologue and stated, “That was a fantastic opening monologue. I, too, am a fan of yours, though I’m going to make a point of disagreeing with you so that it will be fun. You are so bright and articulate, and I guess I can call you articulate since you’re not an American black.”
However, Coulter soon revealed her stance on Ramaswamy’s candidacy when she said, “Oh, and I agreed with many, many things you said during [your monologue] — in fact, probably more than most other candidates when you’re running for president, but I still would not have voted for you, because you’re an Indian.”
“The core around which the nation’s values were formed is the WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant). We’ve never had a president who didn’t have at least partial English ancestry,” she uttered.
Born in the United States, Ramaswamy challenged Coulter’s stance and asked, “On that axis of citizenship, what does ethnicity have to do with the matter? I think you’d be well-served, and maybe this could be a great platform for you to do it, to make the case for why that — what you put it — WASP-basis for the American identity.”
Coulter, however, maintained her position and stated that the presidency should be reserved for “natural-born citizens” and that “lots of” the “very best immigrants” do not fully understand the significance of the Second Amendment or the First Amendment.
Ramaswamy, who launched his presidential campaign in February 2023 as a Republican candidate, later withdrew from the race and endorsed former President Donald Trump.
Ramaswamy is said to be on Trump’s short-list for his vice presidential running mate.
