Are cut-out pieces making a comeback? Anja Rubik certainly thinks so. The model made an appearance at the screening of Decision to Leave (Heojil Kyeolshim) at the 75th annual Cannes Film Festival held at the Palais des Festivals as an ambassador for Saint Laurent.

Rubik was dressed in a ruched beige evening gown by the fashion house that featured a prominent cut-out at the midriff that extended all the way around her back, held together by a fabric flower. The gown’s draping and minimal detail emphasized her silhouette.

The outfit’s color palette consisted solely of muted neutrals, which allowed for Rubik to stand out in a sea of colors worn by other celebrities on the red carpet.

Rubik paired her evening gown with Boucheron jewelry, consisting of hanging geometric earrings and a lone cocktail ring set with a dark stone. Single but statement-making jewels have been shaping up to be a trend at this year’s film festival.

Much like the rest of her ensemble, Rubik’s makeup look was similarly minimal, save for the liner applied all around her eyes, complementing the look’s air of understated elegance.

Cut-out dresses are a summer staple, so you can take a page from Rubik’s book and add it to your closet.

Saint Laurent offers a variety of cut-out clothing in their ready-to-wear collection, such as this long sleeveless crochet dress in black that is similarly midriff-baring.

For more affordable options suited for everyday wear, Resa offers a long-sleeved set that features a detachable skirt for $220.

Mango also carries similar pieces but in more vibrant hues for $80.

You can opt to further recreate Rubik’s look by pairing your outfit with a smoky-colored ring. Both Macy’s and the Effy Collection offer a selection of statement rings set with smoky quartz for an accessory that draws attention without being distracting.
