Over the weekend, actor Jon Voight posted a video to Instagram where he ridiculed his daughter, Angelina Jolie, for her views on the Israel-Hamas war.

On October 28, Jolie, 48, posted a statement to Instagram where she spoke in support of Palestinian civilians.

Jolie wrote, “What happened in Israel is an act of terror. But that cannot justify the innocent lives lost in bombing a civilian population in Gaza that has nowhere to go, no access to food or water, no possibility of evacuation, and not even the basic human right to cross a border or seek refuge.”

Jolie strongly condemned the Israeli Defense Force’s response to the surprise Hamas attack on October 7. Formerly a special envoy of the UN High Commission for Refugees, Jolie accused Israel of “deliberately bombing children, women, families, deprived of food, medicine and humanitarian aid” in violation of international law.

In response to his daughter’s posts, Voight, 84, recorded a video of himself and posted it to Instagram, where he did not hold back in his criticism of Jolie’s viewpoints.

He said, “I am very disappointed that my daughter, like so many, has no understanding of God’s honor, God’s truths.”

He went on to voice his fury that Jolie did not understand that Hamas’ objective was “to annihilate the land of the Jews.”

He called for Jolie to reevaluate her position on Israel’s role in the war, and said, “Hamas and this deceit of their ruling is destroying their own people.”

Voight married Jolie’s mother, actress Marcheline Bertrand, in 1971. The couple had two children, James in 1973 and Angelina in 1975. They divorced the year after Jolie was born when Voight cheated on Bertrand.

Bertrand died of ovarian cancer in 2007.

Jolie and Voight were estranged throughout the early 2000s. They reconciled in 2010 when Jolie’s then-husband, Brad Pitt, helped broker a truce. However, Jolie reportedly cut contact with her father after she and Pitt divorced.

Voight was catapulted to Hollywood fame in the 1960s and 70s for his roles in Midnight Cowboy and Deliverance.

While he had previously held liberal views, he later became a far-right Republican. In recent years, he has gained attention for his vocal support of Donald Trump and distrust in Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory.

Jolie recently settled a lawsuit brought by Pitt over a French vineyard that they had bought together.
