Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s legal battles have escalated further after accusations over their shared winery and French estate.

The company founded by Jolie, Nouvel, is accusing Pitt and his “co-conspirators” of “looting” and “stripping” their estate, Château Miraval, where the winery is located, of its assets in an attempt to gain control of it.

The estate and winery were purchased by the former couple back in 2008.

According to court documents, Jolie is claiming that Pitt has “wasted the company’s assets” on renovations of the Château. This includes spending “more than $1 million on swimming pool renovations, building and rebuilding a staircase four times, and spending millions to restore a recording studio.”

This alleged “misconduct” began after Jolie sold her company in October 2021 to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler’s company Tenute del Mondo. Pitt disproved the sale and wanted her to sell Nouvel to him. Now, Pitt is “refusing to treat Nouvel as an equal partner in the business,” and retaliating by wasting money.

Pitt also stated that the sale poses an “existential threat to the business” because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the new owner’s ties to Russia.

The lawsuit over the winery and estate was first filed by Pitt in February 2022. He claimed that the sale was “unlawful” because Jolie did not receive his consent as per an agreement between the two of them.

In response, Jolie filed a countersuit that claimed that such an agreement never existed and that she had the right to sell her share of the winery. She stated that the reason she sold it was to gain “financial independence” and “have some form of peace and closure to this deeply painful and traumatic chapter of her and their children’s lives.”

Last month, Pitt asserted that the sale of Jolie’s shares in Miraval was “vindictive” due to an “adverse custody ruling.” Jolie responded to this by referring to the abuse claims against Pitt that allegedly occurred in 2016 during a flight that Jolie filed. Pitt countered with a statement through a representative that denied the accusations and stated that if he had abused his children, he would take responsibility for his actions.

The allegations led to an FBI investigation, where no charges were filed.

The former couple have been divorced since 2016 and are still currently facing legal battles, including child custody.
