Angelina Jolie Accuses Brad Pitt Of ‘A History Of Physical Abuse’ In New Court Filing

Actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s legal dispute about the French winery they once co-owned has reignited only allegations of physical abuse inflicted upon Jolie by Pitt that predated their notable plane incident in 2016.

On Thursday, Jolie submitted a motion to the Los Angeles Superior Court in which she tried to sell her stake in the Miraval winery to Pitt. However, Pitt insisted that Jolie sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that prohibited her from discussing Pitt’s alleged abuse of both Jolie and their children. The NDA was intentionally linked to Miraval’s business and aimed to safeguard Pitt’s reputation.

This recent legal filing stems from Pitt’s 2022 lawsuit, in which he claimed that he and Jolie mutually agreed not to sell their shares in the winery without each other’s consent. In a June 2023 filing, Pitt contended that Jolie’s sale of her stake in the winery was an act of vengeance after an unfavorable custody ruling. While Jolie alluded to previous instances of physical abuse in Thursday’s filing, no further details were provided regarding these alleged incidents. 

“While Pitt’s history of physical abuse of Jolie started well before the family’s September 2016 plane trip from France to Los Angeles, this flight marked the first time he turned his physical abuse on the children as well. Jolie then immediately left him,” the filing reads.

Jolie has previously accused Pitt of “looting and stripping” the company.

Thursday’s filing states that Jolie initially agreed to sign an NDA that centered solely on refraining from disparaging Miraval’s wine business as part of the original sale agreement for her stake in the winery, which was nearly finalized at the time.

In his amended complaint from June 2023, Pitt alleged that after Jolie declined to sign his proposed NDA, she suggested an even broader one that would prohibit making derogatory remarks about either party in any public forum except court proceedings or testimonies.

According to the filing, Jolie did not press charges against Pitt for the 2016 altercation as she believed that “the best course was for Pitt to accept responsibility and help the family recover from the post-traumatic stress he caused.” Pitt’s representative stated at the time, “Brad has accepted responsibility for what he did but will not for things he didn’t do.”
