Tennis star Andy Murray and Kim Sears, who’ve been together since 2005, tied the knot in Dunblane, Scotland Saturday afternoon.

Andy Murray Weds Kim Sears

Murray and Sears’ wedding, dubbed “the royal wedding of Scotland,” was held at the Dunblane Cathedral. Murray wore a traditional kilt to the nuptials while Sears donned a bespoke Jenny Packham gown that featured silk chiffon and Swarovski crystals.

In addition to friends and family, the newlyweds were greeted by local fans of the tennis player, who were happy to have him back in his hometown.

“Absolutely fabulous to see them today, especially Andy coming back to his hometown,” said one lady in the crowd,” said one bystander to CNN. Another added, “He’s a hero. He’s done something that all local boys would really strive to do. He’s a superstar.”

The superstar, who captured the Olympic gold medal for men’s singles in 2012 and became the first British man to win Wimbledon in 77 years in 2013, revealed earlier this year that it was Sears who was leading the wedding planning.

“Kim’s been pretty much doing it. I’ve tried to help out when she has asked, but I haven’t been over-involved. I did all the food and cake tasting which I really enjoyed, although I didn’t think I was going to,” Murray told The Telegraph. “It’s a big day for Kim,” he added. “Pretty much everything is taken care of now. She seems fairly relaxed but as we get closer that might change.”

On his big day, Murray appeared to be lost for words on Twitter, settling on conveying his emotions via emoji.
