Andre Johnson, a rapper who is affiliated with the Wu-Tang Clan and goes by the stage name Christ Bearer, cut off his penis prior to jumping off a building in North Hollywood early Wednesday morning.

Johnson leapt from the second story of an apartment building, according to police. Although he survived the fall, the rapper was seriously injured and rushed to Cedars Sinai Medical Center along with his recovered penis. Johnson is still being treated for his injuries, reported CNN.

It’s unknown what caused Johnson to commit the act of self-mutilation followed by the daring leap, though it’s believed the rapper was likely trying to commit suicide.

Johnson, who often performed with the Long Beach, Calif., hip-hop group Northstar, is likely best known for “When the Guns Come Out,” a track that was featured on the soundtrack for 2004 film Blade: Trinity. Hours before his near-fatal leap, “Oooh!,” a music video for a song he recorded with Rugged Monk, hit YouTube.
