The revival series of legendary comedy-drama Sex And The City has been greenlit for season two.
And Just Like That… featured Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis stepping back into their iconic characters of Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Lambert and Charlotte York Goldenblatt years after the events of the original series. The three stars will return for season two.
Series showrunner, Michael Patrick King celebrated the news in a statement that read, “I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters – played by these powerful amazing actors. The fact is, we’re all thrilled. And Just Like That… our Sex Life is back.”
HBO revealed that the show premiered last December to the highest viewer count for an HBO Max original, and implied that it drew a ton of new subscribers to the new streaming service. The mixed critical response to some of the show’s new themes and characters did not stop fans from turning out, it seems.
The main thrust of the new show’s plot was that Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw became newly widowed after onscreen husband Mr. Big (Chris Noth) died at the end of the premiere. Noth was later cut from flashback scenes because he was accused of sexual harassment after the first episode aired.
Along with new cast members including Sara Ramirez, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Evan Handler, and Karen Pittman, the show brought in writers new to the Sex and the City universe including Keli Goff (Black Lightning, Being Mary Jane), Samantha Irby (Shrill, Tuca & Bertie), and Rachna Fruchbom (Parks & Recreation, Fresh Off The Boat).
