Anastacia Lyn Newkirk, the “It’s a Man’s World” singer, revealed on Tuesday that she’s currently recovering from a double mastectomy after facing her second breast cancer diagnosis in the last decade.
Better known as simply Anastacia, the recording artist was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003 after getting a consultation for breast-reduction surgery, announced her most recent battle with the disease via her Facebook page. "I wanted to share something with you in light of Breast Cancer Awareness month," she wrote "I was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time earlier this year and am currently in the final stages of recovery after undergoing a double mastectomy with Latissimus Dorsi flap surgical procedure.”
"It has been an intense journey, but I am feeling great and ready to start the next chapter," Anastacia added. "Breast Cancer Awareness Month gives ALL who are facing this disease a chance to gain strength and support from each other. Early detection saved my life twice."
Back in 2003, Anastacia revealed that her Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS) would not have been discovering through a self-exam, since she didn’t have a lump in her breast. The cells for that particular kind of breast cancer are only found in the milk ducts. Since learning how lucky she was that the cancer was discovered, the singer-songwriter has become an advocate for early mammograms.
"If there's anything I've learned from this, it's to get a mammogram early," she told People in 2003. "I didn't have breast cancer in my family. I didn't have a lump in my breast. This would not have been detected with a self-exam."
In addition to her past cancer scare, Anastacia faced a battle with Crohn’s Disease when she was just 13. The ailment, which causes the inflammation of the gastrointestinal track, forced her to undergo surgery to have part of her intestine removed.
Anastasia had to cancel her European tour for her new album due to her second fight with breast cancer, but according to Twitter, she’s already back in the studio recording.

Women are generally unaware that many breast cancer recurrences (quite often metastatic ) are the direct result of the initial medical interventions of the primary breast cancer, with surgery or radiation therapy to eradicate the original tumor (read the ebook "The Mammogram Myth: The Independent Investigation Of Mammography The Medical Profession Doesn't Want You To Know About" by Rolf Hefti). Most depressing, many alleged breast cancers are non-cancers, that is, millions of healthy women have been treated, and killed by way of metastatic cancer induction involving unnecessary treatments.
